How long are things such as transaction history, GL and check history, and credit report data retained?
For CU*Answers online clients, effective in March 2017 the standard online retention is 12 months for basic savings and checking accounts, and 48 months for all certificates, IRAs (shares and CDs), HSA share and checking accounts, club accounts (such as vacation, holiday, Christmas), tax escrows, and all loans. Prior to March 2017, data retention was 6 months for savings/checking, and 24 months for other member transaction history . Note that when this data is purged, it also removes the additio More...

The entire transaction description from Miscellanous Receipts is not carrying over to the General Ledger history. In the Miscellanous Receipts screen you can type 25 characters, but only 15 are printing in the G/L. How can I see the entire 25 characters for balancing?
The Miscellaneous Receipt Monthly Analysis Report (Tool #533) can be used to print all 25 characters of the transaction description, and should be used for balance and reconciling the General Ledger.

When I use the "credits only" or "debits only" buttons in transaction history, I don't always see the transactions with the date I entered.
As described in this AnswerBook item , this has to do with the unique way in which transaction records are displayed in this inquiry screen. You might get better results after you use page up or down, then use the debit/credit button. The most important thing to remember is that the date you enter is just a target, not a true filter. Because transactions must be listed in the order in which they were posted (in order for the resulting balances to make sense), the list will always “try&rd More...

When I display transaction history, sometimes I have to use page up to get to the transaction I actually want. Can the list be sortable, or maybe just list the most recent transaction automatically at the top?
The transaction history screen is rather unique compared to other lists in CU*BASE. First, because it contains a Resulting Balance column which shows the change in the balance as each transaction was posted. Those balances are difficult to read when presented “backwards” with the most recent at the top. Second, remember that CU*BASE stores many months of transaction history. So the list you see when the screen first displays is not at the “top” of the list, but actually More...

When I use the "Print Receipt" button in transaction history to reprint a receipt in the vertical format, what will show in the Account Summary section at the bottom?
If you use the Retrieve e-Receipt feature from the pop-up window that appears via that function in Transaction History, you can pull the image of the original receipt you saved to your image vault, complete with whatever was shown in the account summary section at the time the receipt was originally generated. However, if you use the Print feature instead to simply recreate the receipt using the stored data, vertical receipts are currently unable to recreate the account summary showing wha More...

When should I suppress a Reversed transaction to keep it from appearing on a member's statement?
Our recommendation is to suppress the transaction if it is the last transaction for that day. If there are transactions after that, do not suppress the transaction. It will affect the running balance shown on the member's statements. TIP: When you do decide to suppress a transaction, we recommend you place an asterisk (*) in front of the transaction description. When a credit union employee looks at transaction history, it will be easy to see that this transaction has been suppressed and More...

Why did a member who has elected to opt out per Reg. E receive a non-return fee on a debit card transaction?
In many cases, the reason an opted-out member receives the non-return fee is because this transaction is a recurring payment. Recurring transactions are not covered by the Reg. E Opt In/Out requirements. You can identify this by the * after the DBT/WDR trans description on the member's transaction history. Recurring transactions are posted and fee'd even if the member is Opted Out.

Can I change the transaction description that appears on a specific member transaction?
Yes. Use Tool #918 Update Trans Desc IRA/HSA Post Codes, choose the appropriate suffix, then change the description. You can also add an additional line (secondary transaction description) in addition to the primary description. These changes will become a permanent part of the member's transaction history and will appear in CU*BASE transaction history screens as well as in online banking. Remember that changes will NOT affect member statements (including e-statements) that have alre More...

Is it possible to print a check to a vendor without creating an invoice? If so, can that payment be recorded in the vendor’s Accounts Payable history?
You can use the “Print CU Checks” feature to cut a check to any vendor, including vendors that have been configured in your CU*BASE Vendor database, without creating an invoice record, if you wish. If you want that item to show up in the vendor's history (and update their YTD amount paid for the current year only ), you will need to perform a separate step to add the record manually. Here are the steps: Step 1: Printing a Quick A/P Check In a nutshell, you will be using Tool More...

When I reverse an NSF fee for a member, does that change the NSF history statistics as well?
No, those statistics are only updated when the original posting program charges a fee to the member. The idea behind this stats file is to record the member was NSF when the item originally came in, regardless of why. There may be several reasons why you reverse the fee, not all of which would mean the history should be changed. (For example, say the item came in NSF but the member had called and said his paycheck was coming tomorrow, so you gave him a break and reversed the fee. In this cas More...

What do the symbols mean in the transaction description of my ATM/debit and credit (EFT) transactions?
When you see one of the following symbols ($, *, #) in the 8th position of the transaction description of your EFT transaction, that indicates that the transaction was processed as a special type. You can view the transaction description either in the member transaction inquiry (account history) or via ATM/Dbt/Crdt inquiry and maintenance tools. As an example, the transaction description for a recurring debit withdrawal transaction will begin with: DBT/WDR* * indicates that the transaction was More...

Where do the transaction descriptions used for
mortgage payments and escrow transfers come from?
Can the credit union configure what they say?
The transaction description is pulling in from the account suffix description and then uses the origin code and origin type to determine if it was a payment (i.e. ACH or AFT). Those are combined to create the transaction description that appears in the member's history. For example, if your loan product is 360 MORTGAGE and a payment is made, the transaction description might be 360 MORTG PAYMENT. You can use Tool #105 Account Suffix Configuration, choose a suffix and update the trans More...

Is there any way to quickly tell what card was used for an ATM/Debit card transaction? For example, a jointly owned account with 2 cards for the husband and wife.
Yes. When reviewing the history on the account, you can select the additional transaction information for the transaction in question. This will take you to the Recorded Card Activity screen for this transaction. The top of the screen presents the last four digits of the card #, and right below that, the embossed names. If a husband and wife each have a card with the same PAN (card #), you can find the card sequence # in the top right corner of the Recorded Activity Screen. This will allow y More...

How does a member's account get debited for bills they schedule through "It's Me 247" Bill Pay (Fiserv)?
In one of three ways: Note: The term 'subscriber' refers to your 'member'. Electronic Payments (ACH) - Fiserv's preference is to send all payments electronically. However in the Risk Model format it is not always feasible. Fiserv submits the merchant payment (via the fed) from a Fiserv settlement account the same day we submit the debit (via the fed) to the subscriber account. Fiserv is taking the risk on the payment. Electronic payments are typically sent when the subscr More...

Can you explain how the system secures funds for debit card authorizations?
The process can vary a bit according to the vendor, but here's a discussion about how it works for credit unions on the CO-OP network, as an example. In most cases, debit card authorizations create a Misc. Secured Shares record on the member's account to hold the funds. When the actual transaction comes in, this record is automatically deleted. (There are exceptions to this rule, such as gas purchases.) A little history: In the past, debit card authorizations would add a hold to an ind More...

My member has an A2A transaction returned status of 'F' for failed. How do I figure out what caused this to happen?
If a member's A2A transaction appears on the Daily A2A Exception Report (LMBRA2AEXP) or you view A2A transactions from the A2A History screen and the member has status of 'F' for failed, you may need to do some research to find out why it failed. My 870.07 Journal Transfer Suspense G/L is off - what should I look for?
As the name of this G/L suggests, this suspense G/L is a wash-through account for automatic system transfer processes such as member journal account transfers, auto check transfers etc. Therefore this G/L should be zeroed out each day as both sides of the transfers offset each other and wash through this G/L. However there are certain things that can occur (either automatically or manually) that may cause a balance to remain in this G/L and require manual intervention to clear it out. The m More...

When an ACH item comes in as an exception and is NSF, the NSF fee is not being charged. Why?
This happens when there is an invalid ACH item that can't be posted at all (bad account number, for example). Even if you subsequently update it, when reposting if the item can't pay due to non-sufficient funds, the NSF fee will not automatically be charged. The ACH item will also not show in the member's transaction history. That's because NSF fees are only charged when the item originally comes in, not via the ACH Exceptions re-post feature, to prevent these fees from being More...

If I activate Statement Style Fees, what happens on a month when a member gets only their credit card statement and not a regular account statement too?
Printed Statement Style fees are triggered only by production of a regular account statement (based on a file called STPRINT01, which is generated only with regular statements, not CC statements) . If a member gets only a credit card statement, they wouldn’t get a fee that particular month. If the next month they get both a credit card statement and a regular statement, then they would get a fee that time.
